Reducing Mammoplasty - Breast Reduction

Technical name: Breast reduction or mammoplasty (mastopexy)
Region of body: tits
Age: from 18 years, with careful evaluation
Anesthesia: local with sedation, epidural or general
Duration of surgery: on average two to three hours
Scar: It can have different formats, depending on each case. Generally vertical in the midline of the breast and horizontal in the mammary groove.

Indication

The breasts after puberty are stiff due to the amount of gland. Over time, there is a decrease in the amount of gland, increased fat and tendency to ptosis (falling of the breast). Pregnancy is an important factor in accelerating breast ptosis. Mammoplasty aims to reverse this condition by suspending the breast and removing excess skin and breast tissue. It is indicated for the reduction of bulky breasts and for suspension of ptosed breasts (falls). It may also be indicated for correction of asymmetries between the breasts.

Objective

The breasts play an important role in female sexuality and the aesthetic result obtained with this surgery is extremely positive, including from a psychological point of view.

Reduce large and heavy breasts, to resolve discomforts and physical problems - pain in the shoulder, neck and back, sometimes leading to deviations of the spine.

Main aspects

Corrects also the shape and sagging of the breasts, reducing the amount of stretch marks.
If the patient wishes, the nipple can also be repositioned and, if necessary, reduced in size.
The surgery seeks to balance the volume of the breast and the size of the thorax, arriving at an aesthetically harmonious result. There are no vascular damage and loss of breast tenderness.

Pre and post-operative care

It is recommended to suspend medications, especially those containing acetylsalicylic acid (change coagulation factors). Ten days before: smoking cessation and alcohol consumption.

Any changes in the patient's physical condition (flu, colds, menstruation, etc.) should be reported to the physician. On the eve, absolute fasting from midnight.

In the first months the scar is reddish, becoming generally whitish over time, depending on the genetics of the patient. By the third month, the breast scale (accommodation) is produced, which produces the rounded contour of the lower part of the breast, which shortly after the surgery is rectified.

The definitive result appears between the sixth and the eighth month.

Discharge is on the same day of surgery, or next day, depending on the case.

A special bra should be worn between 30 and 60 days without interruption.

The patient should stay away from exertion for 15 days, avoiding to raise the arms in the first 10 days.

It is not common to have major pain, only a slight discomfort, which can be overcome with analgesics and common anti-inflammatory drugs.

It is important to emphasize that, in the case of post-operative pregnancy, breastfeeding is usually normal; The result, however, may be impaired, with a return of some flaccidity, due to the increase during lactation and subsequent reduction of volume.

Time duration

On average, two and a half hours.
