Otoplasty / Lobuloplasty - Eyelash Plastic

Technical name: otoplasty
Body region: ears
Age: from 7 years old
Anesthesia: local with sedation
Duration of surgery: from one hour to one and a half hours
Scar: no visible external scar

Indication:

Some people are born with poorly shaped ears, that is, in a different shape than normal. The most common malformation is the so-called flap ear, which has its lateral border furthest from the head, thus appearing to be larger. In these ears there is also the deletion of the anti-helix (internal fold of the ear), giving it an aspect of parabolic antenna.

Otoplasty is the surgery that leads to the correction of these changes, in order to form the anti-helix and decrease the distance between the back of the ear and the scalp.

The ideal age for correction is from age 6, when the ear has reached adult size and the child begins the school period. The fanned ear usually causes discomfort and embarrassment, especially in childhood, where the child is mocked by his colleagues, resulting in deep marks in his behavior, since it is in the pre-school period that the problems of a psychological nature begin.

The purpose of otoplasty is to correct the aesthetic changes of the ear, leaving the ear naturally, without fainting ear stigma or surgery.

Objectives:

This is an imperfection, not a defect, as it does not impair function. It is one of the most common aesthetic surgeries performed in childhood, since by generating enjoyments by other children, it can cause marks on the child's behavior.

Main Aspects:

It is suggested as the ideal age to perform the procedure, between 5 and 7 years, since the ear will already be fully formed and almost equal to the size of an adult.

The scars are virtually invisible because they are located behind the ear, in the groove formed between it and the skull. Anesthesia is local, associated with mild sedation.

Other defects that may be associated with hearing problems can be corrected from age 6, when the child may already pass audiometry tests.

Pre and post-operative care:

The postoperative is usually painless and an ordinary painkiller can do away with any discomfort.
The bandage is made with a band to protect the operated ears and avoid any trauma during the first seven days.
The stitches are removed between the seventh and the 14th day.
As soon as the dressing is removed, 70% of the result can already be noticed and, after 90 days, the result is definitive.
Even so, it is recommended to use an elastic band that should be placed only to sleep for 30 days after the stitches are removed.

Running Time:

The duration time is 90 minutes on average for bilateral correction and 40 minutes for unilateral correction.
Reconstructive surgery may take longer than esthetics, and may require more than one surgery, depending on the case.
The patient may be discharged on the same day or the day after surgery.
